Maryland is home to 19 public and 22 private college and universities as well as 16 community colleges. Many of the state's public universities are part of the University System of Maryland, with the exception of the United States Naval Academy, St. Mary's College and Morgan State University, which are public, but are not part of the university system. Universities and colleges in Maryland are accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. Available degree programs range from two-year associate degrees to doctoral level programs.
